What credit cards have the best rewards programs?

Q. I've got all my bills paid off (school and credit cards) and i was looking to cancel all the credit accounts and just open one account with a card that has good benefits for using it. Then i'm going to pay my insurance, phone, car and other expenditures with that card and just pay it off every month so i don't have to pay interest, but i get benefits. Anyone know of any good cards?

A. Chase offers a reward card that you can alternate between getting cash back or miles/points. I personally like my Washington Mutual (formerly Providian) because they pay promptly on the anniversary date/month a rebate check. Not just credit into your account. Most only offer 1% (the 5% c'mons) are for only certain transactions AND the merchant has to be coded as that specific vendor, i.e. gasoline station, not a convenience store, etc......so you won't really see that much difference between the two rebate amounts. Review at bankrate.com credit card section and punch in criteria you want. Yahoo Finance also has a credit card analysis page. (to me CASH is always better than points/credits for future purchases, like GM card because you have to BUY something to take advantage. what if you only want the money? Take the cash!!!)

What Jobs are available to someone who is 17 to actually make some money?
Q. I've been working in the food industry for over a year now. I am graduated from high school and I'm also a sophomore in college. I have to be able to make enough money to make my car payment, insurance, phone bill, pay rent, by food, pay for gas, and have some extra cash. I'm a very a hard worker and would love to work atleast 40 hours a week. What kind of job should I be looking for? Most jobs around here are only available to someone who is over 18.

A. If you want to get out of the fast food thing, you should check out some retail positions. I worked retail for my first job and they were great about working with my schedule to give me the most hours. Just walk around the mall, go into stores, and ask for an application. Best of luck!

What should i do about this fender bender i got into recently. This is my first accident?
Q. so i got into a fender bender. A car hit me from behind while i was at a yield sign and bent my bumper. No police were called yet we exchanged information..insurance, phone number, and wrote license plates number. I was also out of state when this accident happened. Will i regret not calling the police because it can be an easier situaion for the other person to get out of paying because i live in another state?

A. Yes you should have called the police, as you will probably find out.

What do you need in order to live on your own?
Q. Like car insurance, health insurance, phone, etc. What are all of the necessary things you need in order to live alone, in a apartment.
I think having a stable job is assumed :p

A. Well the main things are electricity ( if you have to pay the bill and it is not included in the rent)
and heat and or air conditioning depending on where you live heating is very important and expensive! Many rentals up north make people pay there our heat bills now because of the price
Then cable or Satellite ,phone and health insurance car insurance and rental insurance is good to have although not required by most landlords..

Are there any programs to help buy a laptop that is required for AP classes?
Q. My daughter is attending a junior college in Mississippi on a soccer scholarship and has a couple of AP classes that require a laptop. (She wants to be an x-ray tech at a children's hospital.) Are there any programs or grants that she can apply for to help her with the expense? She works as a waitress to pay for her car, insurance, phone and incidentals and we do not have the resources to help her at this time. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

A. Rent/Lease one.......that's what I did. Rent-a-center.

what are some ways to save money?
Q. I am 19 years old, and work two jobs. I also go to college part time. I spend a lot of money on my bills every month. I pay rent, car payment, car insurance, phone bill, gas, etc. I am looking for some ways to cut down so I can save up some money for my own apartment. My goal is to be out on my own by October 2011, any ideas?

A. First thing I'd suggest is to start keeping written notes on every dime you spend. After about one month,(but don't stop keeping notes) you'll have a good idea of your spending habits. When you can see where your money goes, you'll have a much better idea of what you can do without (starbucks, meals at work bought instead of brought, unnecessary wardrobe additions come to mind). Using a credit card with rewards points instead of cash will help a little (I pay my water bill with a credit card) and a lot of littles will add up. One percent of anything is a lot. Keep this in mind when spending. You could also, of course, look at the income side of the equation. You're working 2 jobs and also getting your education (very admirable! Good for you) so your options in this area may be limited -- can you find a better paying job to replace one of the jobs? Can you find a replacement job that pays the same but with less cost (travel cost, parking cost, expensive wardrobe needed, tools or supplies you must provide) or a replacement job with better long term prospects -- some employers will reimburse for education which is career related, etc.). You're doing great, just keep at it.

How can I get a cell phone that will work on the cruise ship?
Q. I am looking for a cell phone that will work on the cruise ship and in Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, Grand Cayman, and Aruba. The company that my travel agent suggested to me was good but no insurance on phone loss or damage and the penalty is $1,500. Do you know of a good company? Or should I just call from each island from a pay phone and calling card?

A. While out to sea there are no "cell" phones that will work since you are going to be too far from a tower. They do make satellite phones but they can cost upward of $5.00 per minute. IMARSAT is a company that makes such phones. As for a phone that you can use while in port - AT&T makes a "world" phone and if you pay for the International Plan, calling from overseas isn't too bad but will still be expensive compared to public phone and calling cards. I use Magic Jack. You can buy it at lots of commercial retail outlets or from MagicJack.com. Very cheap and all you need is your laptop and a WiFi connection. Another option is the Vonage Ap for your iPhone which also only needs a wifi connection (which you can often get on cruise ships) and will be able to make calls as if you were home.
