A. Well the main things are electricity ( if you have to pay the bill and it is not included in the rent)
and heat and or air conditioning depending on where you live heating is very important and expensive! Many rentals up north make people pay there our heat bills now because of the price
Then cable or Satellite ,phone and health insurance car insurance and rental insurance is good to have although not required by most landlords..

Are there any programs to help buy a laptop that is required for AP classes?
Q. My daughter is attending a junior college in Mississippi on a soccer scholarship and has a couple of AP classes that require a laptop. (She wants to be an x-ray tech at a children's hospital.) Are there any programs or grants that she can apply for to help her with the expense? She works as a waitress to pay for her car, insurance, phone and incidentals and we do not have the resources to help her at this time. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.
A. Rent/Lease one.......that's what I did. Rent-a-center.
what are some ways to save money?
Q. I am 19 years old, and work two jobs. I also go to college part time. I spend a lot of money on my bills every month. I pay rent, car payment, car insurance, phone bill, gas, etc. I am looking for some ways to cut down so I can save up some money for my own apartment. My goal is to be out on my own by October 2011, any ideas?
A. First thing I'd suggest is to start keeping written notes on every dime you spend. After about one month,(but don't stop keeping notes) you'll have a good idea of your spending habits. When you can see where your money goes, you'll have a much better idea of what you can do without (starbucks, meals at work bought instead of brought, unnecessary wardrobe additions come to mind). Using a credit card with rewards points instead of cash will help a little (I pay my water bill with a credit card) and a lot of littles will add up. One percent of anything is a lot. Keep this in mind when spending. You could also, of course, look at the income side of the equation. You're working 2 jobs and also getting your education (very admirable! Good for you) so your options in this area may be limited -- can you find a better paying job to replace one of the jobs? Can you find a replacement job that pays the same but with less cost (travel cost, parking cost, expensive wardrobe needed, tools or supplies you must provide) or a replacement job with better long term prospects -- some employers will reimburse for education which is career related, etc.). You're doing great, just keep at it.
How can I get a cell phone that will work on the cruise ship?
Q. I am looking for a cell phone that will work on the cruise ship and in Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, Grand Cayman, and Aruba. The company that my travel agent suggested to me was good but no insurance on phone loss or damage and the penalty is $1,500. Do you know of a good company? Or should I just call from each island from a pay phone and calling card?
A. While out to sea there are no "cell" phones that will work since you are going to be too far from a tower. They do make satellite phones but they can cost upward of $5.00 per minute. IMARSAT is a company that makes such phones. As for a phone that you can use while in port - AT&T makes a "world" phone and if you pay for the International Plan, calling from overseas isn't too bad but will still be expensive compared to public phone and calling cards. I use Magic Jack. You can buy it at lots of commercial retail outlets or from MagicJack.com. Very cheap and all you need is your laptop and a WiFi connection. Another option is the Vonage Ap for your iPhone which also only needs a wifi connection (which you can often get on cruise ships) and will be able to make calls as if you were home.
