Do you think it`s a good idea to buy flight insurance on an expensive flight?

Q. I did ,and had to cancel a few days after I bought the tickets for a trip from USA to Germany. The insurance co. claimed I had a "pre-existing" condition when I bought the tickets. There is no way in hell that I knew that I had a serious problem that was going to prevent me from flying (needed heart pacemaker). My advice to all is to save the cost of insurance.

A. I don't agree. I think you should fight the insurance company. Unfortunately they will try to wriggle out of their obligations. the more they succeed the more they will try.

Would Retiring Seniors be open to moving outside the USA for a more comfortable life style?
Q. With all of the coming cuts to social services and government entitlements, the ever raising co-payments, higher cost of living and never ending raising properity taxes. Relocatcating could be the answer to streaching your retirement fixed income. Where would you want to go?

A. We have just done so 3 months ago.
We moved to Hungary where my husband was from. He is now more "American" then Hungarian and I am just a regular S.Calif. American women.( He forgot what a hassle it can be over here)
Our money does seem to go further here but there are also many hidden costs we have had since being here. We are hoping it balances out soon and we can start seeing some savings.
It really is only for the brave to move to a new country. I don't understand 95% of what is going on here, sometimes that's great but other times it isn't easy.
I find the general lifestyle here to be rather on the rough side. People here haven't had much and don't expect much either.
Things I took for granted in the US are out of the question here for now. I am seriously thinking that maybe we made a mistake moving away.I am having a very difficult time with Immigration, it is complicated. I should qualify for the highest level of immigration because of my marriage but they are still giving me a hard time with paperwork. ( a 5 year resident permit)All US official documents aren't good enough for the immigration here. It is really making me stressed out, the last thing I want.
Even the paperwork for the ss dept. in the US stating my husbands benefits which we need to prove we are able to pay our own way, these papers aren't good enough for them here, good enough for everything in the US but not in this tiny little country. Makes me very angry that Americans are treated badly here. If I was a refugee and asking for welfare here, I would be treated better.
After we contact all offical agencies in the US and get stamps, labels, and a few drops of blood, then we need to have the papers translated into Hungarian at a cost of perhaps $25 to over $100. a page. We have looked into it. I must purchase my own health insurance for at least another $150. or so a month for up to one year then I will qualify for a cheaper rate like a regular Hungarian citizen.
Since all my papers aren't up to their liking, I must report to immigration every 10 days until papers are in order. I recieved a 90 day extention but can't leave the country with the document or I won't be able to return.( it's worst then being on parol)
All this hassle wasn't known to us before we moved here. None was available over the internet and some of their offical offices have even moved to new locations. Things that can take 10 min. in the US seem to take weeks over here.
In any case, it is interesting to live in a new country but seems not so easy to take the BS when you just want to relax and enjoy your life a bit. Too old to be sitting in an immigration office ever week.
The government here also has their share of problems and benifits are being cut all the time for seniors here too.( It is very currupt here, easy to notice in a smaller country)
Our 80 year old neighbor lives on $200. a month. She lives with her daughter or who knows what would happen to her otherwise.
Thinking maybe to move back home and work until I drop.God bless the USA!

How much will it cost me to see a doctor in London?
Q. I am almost 100% sure I have strep throat, as I have had it before and all the same symptoms are occurring now. Unfortunately, I am abroad in London, England and I do not have any type of insurance with me. I am from the USA, but my insurance only covers emergency visits. I am unsure of what to do. How much will it cost me to see a general doctor to get a prescription for something? How much will medication cost me?

A. Emergency NHS treatment is always free, even to overseas visitors without insurance. =)

So if your throat is really really bad (like it's constricting your breathing, giving you trouble swallowing, or causing you severe pain), then you need to get it checked out.
You can do this at a GP's surgery, or at a hospital's A&E department (accident & emergency -- our equivalent of the ER) or at an NHS walk-in centre.

However, if you need any secondary treatment, you will have to pay for that. For instance, if you became ill enough to need admitting to hospital, or if you were referred on to an outpatient clinic.

If your throat isn't causing you severe problems, then I'd suggest you start by visiting a high-street chemist and talking to the pharmacist there.
Strep throat isn't usually treated with antibiotics here in the UK any more, because they only shorten bacterial throat infections by a couple of days and don't work at all on viral infections. So if you do go to a GP they will probably recommend over-the-counter painkillers and anti-inflammatory medicines (ibuprofen and paracetamol are the usual ones). Non-branded ibuprofen and paracetamol are widely available and cost around 40p for a pack of 16 caplets.
Warm salt-water mouthwashes are also usually recommended, to reduce both pain and swelling. Keep well hydrated. Tea is good, as it's mildly antiseptic, but let it cool a little bit before you drink it so it doesn't irritate your throat further.

If you do want to get an appointment with a private GP, this will cost you £60 - £70 for 15 minutes.
Bupa (the best-known private medical provider in the UK) sets its rates at £67.49 for 15 minutes and £123 for 30 minutes.

Hope you feel better soon.
