Q. Doing research in attempt to know how much it will take to get a small sub shop off the ground. A big question is insurance. In this day in age, I would hate to be sued by someone who slips outside and falls. I will be renting the property from a local land owner. The building is 1,000 square feet, small joint. What is a general range of which I might in liability insurance for my business? Located in ohio small town.
A. I've insured these before. Since you don't own the building, a package policy in a protection class six or better area, is probably going to run you around $1500 a year. That includes liabiltiy AND EQUIPMENT. I'm assuming no liquor sales here, and seating for less than 20 people.
Would it make a difference to you if the question were framed differently?
Q. The Republicans are framing the question of insurance payment for contraceptives and other health-care specific to women as a "religious freedom" issue. I agree that it is, but I think it is the woman's religious freedom rather than the institution's freedom that is at risk of being infringed.
Would it make a difference to you if instead of framing it as a government intervention, as the Republicans are trying to do, the question is whether the rights of the individual to chose his or her own insurance options trumps the rights of the institution.
Republicans and the courts have been successful recently in identifying institutions and business as "people" with the rights and freedoms of actual individual humans.
Would it be okay if an employer or a company insisted that I go to his church and pray after his fashion in order to remain employed? What if my employer is an absolute devil worshiper? Is it STILL okay that he blackmail me to take part in his religion in order that I earn a living?
The Democrats are failing to frame the question accurately and convincingly, but that doesn't mean they are on wrong side of the question, does it?
Jim, I'm not sure the name calling does anyone any good. Your sponsors are likely to pull support.
That point aside, I've made the choice of which college to attend. All programs are not equal. All faculty are not equal. My son had a scholarship to one university, but not to another, so funding is not always equal. If all things are equal, then why do you buy a particular brand of beer, a particular brand of vehicle or a particular type of clothing preferentially?
Just because the diplomas look similar doesn't mean the educations provided are identical.
Power, I'm not suggesting you violate your convictions. I'm suggesting that an employer shouldn't violate them, either.
Exploding, while I like the efficiency of your suggestion, I don't think much of the civil liberties violations that would likely ensue. The question remains...does stating the issue as a conflict between the rights of the individual versus the rights of institutions cause you to rethink your position on the ":religious freedom" question? Has your employer ever voiced religious convictions at odds with your own, and put your job at risk as a result? Does the employer have that right?

A. Hi Karen, great to see you around!
I'm beginning to believe reframing is everything. When the Republicans focused on the issue as a attack on the Catholic church and religious freedom they had the advantage, but the issue has evolved into women's rights and contraception (something 98% of Catholic women practice). Even Republican women found that too be too ultra conservative! Latest Obama polls shows as much as a 11point increase in his rating against the Repub. candidates.as a result.
The Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot.
They just had their worst month, which I think is a reflection of their monumental lack of a strong leader.
