What could entitle a witness to ask questions like a lawyer?

Q. This is a hypothetical situation. How would somebody acting as a witness be able to ask questions to a suspect? For example, if the witness were to point out the suspect in the crowd. How would a judge handle this?

A. A witness would not be allowed to cross examine a suspect. The judge or attorney might take the witness's testimony, then ask questions based on it.

Why do people ask questions that could easily be solved by google?
Q. Why do people ask questions that could easily be solved by google?

Why do people ask questions about what song this is (when they have the lyrics) or what is the definition of this word? I mean come on, all you have to do is google it and you will have your answer in less than 30 seconds.

A. Probably because they want to have some sort of human interaction. Of course, by using the computer to ask the question, they're making their concept of a human communicating with them a little dreary.

Or they think Google is out to get them.

How do I ask questions on Tumblr as my secondary blog?
Q. I have used the 'make another blog' addon to my personal acc feature on tumblr for a roleplay. How do I use it to ask questions as that account rather than my personal?

A. If your secondary blog is on the same account as your primary one, your primary blog's username is the only one able to ask questions tumblr. If you want to start from scratch you can create another email address and start a blog from that account but otherwise there is no way to do it.

Why does everyone here give wikipedia answers for the questions?

Q. If we wanted wikipedia answers we would go there ourselves.

A. I agree- there are many lazy people on here, the point of Yahoo! answers is for people to give you answers from a variety of experiences, this is not a lookup place for Wikipedia. Why does this happen? Maybe people like Wiki so much that they dont trust anyone else for info to give them points. You should use an encyclopedia plus your own input.

Is there a better site than YA focusing on Science and/or Art related questions?
Q. Is it worth checking out some forum at Nat Geo or Discovery, or some other site i've missed?
Or is Yahoo really the best source of questions/answers ?
Sometimes it just seems like all the sports, spirituality, & dating garbage is distracting here.

A. It is not easy to have direct answers to all questions you meet.
There is a lot of stuff here but not precisely grouped.
If you have the right keywords, wikipedia, wikipedia references, newscientist.com, sciencedaily.com, spacedaily.com, .org and .gov sites etc are there. You should Google for knowledge. Is not totally free, have some time. Because it worths.

Did congress during the Clinton administration take funds from social security to balance the budget?
Q. I'm a bit confused on issues concerning why social security is so low now in 2008. If that started with Clinton, possibly to balance the budget. If social security was in trouble before Clinton and if it worsened with Clinton or not...Was checking wikipedia but couldn't get a lot of these questions answered.

A. Yes, they did use Social Security to "balance" the budget. All Congresses have used the Social Security surplus since LBJ.

October 19, 1999
White House, Congress promise not to raid Social Security

Promises vs. realities

"We're still troubled by the CBO analysis that we're using Social Security trust funds, at least $19 billion," admitted Daschle.

"Most government experts acknowledge that Social Securitys trust fund is little more than a ledger entry. Indeed, in last years budget documents, experts within the Clintons own Office of Management and Budget wrote:

"These balances [within the trust fund] are available to finance future benefit payments and other trust fund expenditures but only in a bookkeeping sense. Unlike the assets of private pension plans, [government trust funds] do not consist of real economic assets that can be drawn down in the future to fund benefits."

"Here's how the raid works: The surplus payroll tax dollars go into the Social Security Trust Fund, which in turn uses them to buy special issue bonds from the U.S. Treasury.

Then Congress can use those dollars, in the Treasury, to spend on anything it wants. All that Social Security has are the bonds. The bonds pay interest, but Congress raids the interest, too, by simply placing more bonds in the trust fund. The trust fund itself is a FILING CABINET in West Virginia it doesn't have any real funds in it and you probably shouldn't trust it."

July 29, 2005
"Stop the Raid": Fiction vs. Fact

"FICTION: Stop the Raid legislation would increase the federal budget deficit by more than $1 trillion over 10 years, without fixing Social Securitys long-term solvency problem.

FACT: Stop the Raid legislation does not increase the long-term national debt. Eliminating hidden borrowing will appear to increase short-term deficits, but this is because Congress only looks a few years into the future when it does its budget. Look a few more years out and neither the amount of spending nor the amount of borrowing will change. The only change is that Congress is forced to report the actual level of its deficit spending instead of using Social Security as a slush fund to conceal part of it from the American people."

How to delete your yahoo answers account without starting new?
Q. How do I delete all the questions and answers with out starting a new account?

A. You can't.

"...Some privacy concerns have been raised regarding embarrassing or private information. Users can not delete their accounts. A user can only "deactivate" an account but the profile, questions, and answers remain visible and searchable. Prior to 2010, a new user's default privacy setting would enable any other user to send an IM or contact him or her via inline mailing system. Post 2010, the default privacy settings were such that a new user can only contact another user via Yahoo! Pulse (unless the user has activated communication via the IM and email option in the settings page).[citation needed] ..."

Is there a website where I can answer questions and get money?

Q. I want a website that doesn't give me viruses, a fun website, a website where you answer questions and get real money!

A. fixya.com ( i don't work for them) has a choice for an Asker to pay to get an answer. If you are good at answering, they give you a title like "Expert" in a category. There are lots of complaints online that the Experts only gave a link to a manufacturer's website. That may count as an "answer" but it did not really answer the question.

Or you set up your own website and offer answers for a set fee.

How does car insurance work? (also whats better buying a car vs leasing)?

Q. well im 16 right now. planning to save up till 18 and buy a car. my first question is, how does car insurance work? i know you have to pay monthly and depending on each car its different but would car insurance be cheaper when the car is leased? or when its bought?

also i know each car depreciates alot every year. at first i was thinking of leasing it but now im not sure. can someone tell me what would be a better choice on the long run?

A. Insurance companies have the data on millions of miles of travel for millions of people of all ages; using this data, they know exactly how likely you are to get into an accident and how much it will cost. Using this data, they bill you ahead of time for your accidents in monthly increments (actually, this is a gross simplification but you get the idea).

Do not lease a car!
Leasing is total fail - the only way leasing works in your favor is when your company pays for it (or you are able to deduct the payments from your taxes). The leasing company figures out how much you will drive over the life of the lease, how much the car will depreciate, and what they will be able to sell the car for when - they add all this up and divide it by the number of months of the lease. Then they add in their profit. You have to pay a couple thousand dollars to begin the lease and when the lease is over, they will bill you for any mileage over what they calculated and bill you for any loss when they sell the car. Most leases are bogged down with so much fine print (and BS) that you have no real idea of the cost you only know what the monthly payments are -- remember that you have to pay a lump sum at the beginning and another at the end.

Leasing is for losers - if you can work the lease so your company is the loser, good for you.

Is car insurance absolutely needed for a car?
Q. I will be purchasing my first car sometime this year. I don't know anything about insurance and I'm really not knowledgeable when it comes to things like this. So my question is, is car insurance a requirement when owning a car? Do you need it? Is it expensive and how does the process work?

Cause I'll be getting my first car soon and I don't really know insurance plays a role in all of this.

A. If you are in the USA, yes, car insurance is required by law in every state but NH. If you are leasing or borrowing money to buy a car, the leasing company or lender will require full coverage insurance to protect their investment.

Do car insurance companies know when you receive a moving violation?
Q. When you ask for a new car insurance quote from your current or a new provider they always ask the question if you have been involved in an accident or have been pulled over recently etc, etc. My question is, do they already know this info and are they maybe testing me or do they really don't know? I've had two moving violations within the past 5 years and I'm wondering how to answer these questions when I shop for insurance on a new vehicle.

A. if you have gotten a ticket or two or three, i would stay with the same company and not make too much noise. unless you get in an accident, the likelihood of the insruance company running your driving record is almost zero. they won't know. if you try to go to another company - they will run your driving record - bank on it. and, the ticket(s) will show up and their quote will be higher as a result. Your current company does not know about it. Stay w them and don't make any noise.

In New York State do you have to have vehicle insurance while driving a rented truck?
Q. OK ill explain this as simple as possible. I rented a truck from a truck rental place and opted out of the insurance. I have vehicle insurance and so does anyone else who was going to be driving the truck. One of my friends was driving the truck and caused damage to the truck. He was not on the rental contract to be driving the truck. He does have his own vehicle insurance. My question is will his insurance company cover the damages? I was under the impression that in NYS, no matter whether or not you should be driving the rental truck your insurance will cover you. Thanks ahead of time.

A. No, it won't.

There are several different ways a policy can be written, and not all policies will carry over onto a rental. And for physical damage to carry over, you must have physical damage on YOUR car, and YOUR car must be off the road - ie, in the shop, and NOT available for use. It would only carry over, if you are the NAMED insured (not a listed driver), and it only carries over to a substitute vehicle that YOU rent.

HOWEVER. When it DOES carry over, it only carries over to PRIVATE PASSENGER type vehicles. Not trucks. So even if he had coverage, AND his vehicle was off the road due to not running, AND the policy was in his name, AND the policy form allowed carryover for substitute vehicles, it wouldn't carry over to a TRUCK.

Sorry. His insurance won't cover. Neither will yours, as this is a TRUCK.

Why do people compare mandates on health insurance to vehicle insurance?
Q. Considering that most mandates for vehicle insurance usually only include liability which protects other people if you do something stupid, but health insurance is the opposite.

A. Because they are ignorant of the facts and it has nothing to do with choosing to drive or not.

As you mentioned, with car insurance you are only required by the government to get liability coverage. If you dig deeper the real fact is you are actually only required to show financial liability. Most people do that with insurance, but every state will allow you to post a financial bond instead of insurance. The amount of the bond will vary by state but in my state it is $40,000. You can find the information for your state on your state department of insurance website. It can be difficult to find with some states, though.

The other car insurance coverage that is "required" is comprehensive and collision, which are required by your lender, not the government. As long as the car is paid off you don't have to carry that coverage.

how can i get my vehicle insurance with out meeting with an accident?
Q. i there any way that i can get my vehicle insurance with out meeting with an accident.
i have insured my vehicle.how can i get money for my vehicle with out meeting with an accident.

A. Most people who get vehicle insurance don't "meet with an accident". Otherwise it would cost a lot more.

Unless you mean, you want to get vehicle insurance to COVER an accident you've already had. It's too late for that.

Or, maybe you mean, you want to buy it, without meeting an agent. So buy it over the internet, at www.progressive.com.

Can you cancel a Life insurance policy over the phone?

Q. My mother in law past away suddenly three years ago. We found out through the executor of the will, (brother in law ) that there was a life insurance policy that was never mentioned. When we questioned him on it. He said it was payable to one child of the four (my husband) but it was never mentioned because he said the policy was canceled over the phone. I was told by a lawyer that policy can only be canceled in writing or it can lapse for non payment. Is there a standard that is upheld for life insurance cancellations?

A. No Insurer (Life Insurance Company) is going to cancel a life insurance policy over the phone. Even if the state insurance laws did not exist, the company could be dealing with an unauthorized person and would be held liable in a lawsuit. A witnessed signature is required in order to cover their assets.

The Premium Payer, however, may be able by telephone to stop automatic premium payments (such as those made by monthly check draft). This would ultimately result in the lapse of the policy. Yet in that case, before the policy lapsed the Insurer would send notices by mail to the last address of record for the Owner of the policy (who is not necessarily the Insured). If the Owner had moved and had not updated their address with the Insurer, the policy could lapse due to no fault of the insurance company.

How does att cell phone insurance work?
Q. When you get phone insurance with att how does it work? My friend is talking about getting a "replacement" phone even though his doesn't have any problems just so he has an extra one. Would att find out if he did that? Is it even possible?

A. he would have to actually buy another phone to have an extra phone. to receive a replacement phone, you have to call assurion. they will send you a new phone like the one you have or similar if no longer on the market. you have to pay a $50-$100 deductable depending on the phone. the insurance policy with att requires you to send back the "broken" phone once you have received your replacement phone. if you do not return it, you will be billed for the price of the phone.

Does anyone know how soon after you purchase mobile phone insurance can you make a claim?
Q. Four years ago, i got a contract phone from the Car-phone Warehouse, the provider was t-mobile and on the same day I took out an insurance policy. Every year afterwards I got an upgrade, I never cancelled my policy and the direct debits continued to come out every month from my account. On the 18th November 2006 my upgrade was a sony K800i, last week i dropped my phone and broke the 'inner' screen, i immediately phoned the Carphone Warehouse (whom I have paid a substantial amount of money to over the last few years) to find out if they would fix it, and they informed me that as I had upgraded with t-mobile i was not covered (and hadn't been covered for 3 years). The money I have therefore paid was for absolutely no reason! I now would like to insurance my phone with a decent insurance company, any suggestions??? How soon after i insure can I ask them to fix my phone??? Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

A. as soon as you activate your phone

How can I transfer a life insurance policy?
Q. My parents took out a life insurance policy on me when I was a child. I am now married and would like to transfer it into my name with my wife as the beneficiary. Is this possible?

A. Yes. You can transfer ownership of a policy into your name - since you are the insured.

Also, you can have the beneficiary changed to your wife. You may need to wait until ownership is transferred to your name however.

Look in the policy itself for the ownership transfer privilege and the beneficiary section. The rules should be spelled out clearly within the policy as to how you can go about making the changes you want to make.

If you have questions, call the life insurance company directly and speak with a customer service representative. The phone number should be printed on the cover of the life insurance policy. Have all your questions written out to refer to once you are speaking with the company representative.

Make sure you ask them to send you a copy of their responses in writing if you want to keep it for your file. Or, maybe you could go to their company web site online and e-mail them your questions. This way, they will reply with an e-mail outlining exactly how to make the changes. I'm sure this happens frequently with juvenile life insurance policies from Globe Life or Gerber Life, so the insurer should be used to getting this question.

I hope that helps! Best of luck to you and make sure to get it in writing for your files. Also, if you are considering adding some coverage then you may want to go to http://www.term-life-online.com They offer a lot of information, articles, tips and things to know about term life insurance to help you in making an informed decision about your life insurance plan.

Are we allowed to ask genuine questions about sex on here, or does it count as adult content?
Q. I have some questions that I'm curious about that I don't want to ask friends, because frankly I'm way too old not to know the answers. I know that you can't post questions/answers that have adult content, but what if they aren't offensive and I am asking out of curiosity? I don't want to be reported for them.

A. Here's the information you need to look at:

Can I ask questions about sex?

Sex and sexual health questions are allowed on Answers as long as they are not graphic. Dont refer to body parts with profane words, dont over-share sexual details, and dont represent yourself with an avatar that represents adult content. Be sure to categorize your question correctly because it is possible for a question to be abusive in the context of a specific category, even if it would not be considered abusive in the context of a different category.

Hope this should answer your question.

How to get start in Real Estate Investing?

Q. I have been doing research about real estate investing and have a few questions about the process. Is the first thing I need a broker, banker, or a seller? Do I need to see mortgage company or can I just take a loan out form the bank? What kind of down payment do you need? Does anyone have any information about tax break, cuts, or property taxes regarding real estate. Any additional information would be helpful, I'm still in a learning phase.

Thank You

A. First thing you need is a plan. You ask a lot of good questions, and as Eddie G said, a real estate book may be your best bet. Once you are done with that, meet with an financial planner and an accountant. This way you have a better idea of what is your strategy and what direction you want to go in.

Are you looking at long term residual income? If so are you looking at Commercial, residential, land opportunities, easement options? Do you want to flip properties for short term capital growth? Do you want to start off on your own home and growth from there? Know the tax advantages of all as well as exit strategies.

You can go to your own bank for a loan, but you probably want to work with a lender that knows what they are doing and can help direct you. You also want to make sure you get the best rate/service for the price. Banks have less options then mortgage lenders.

Down payment depends on what you buy: Land and commercial can be difficult to impossible to get now: the were requiring about 30-50% down. Residential properties that are rental require a larger % down then residential that is owner occupied. Owner occupied can be al low as 3.5% for FHA loans (be prepared for closing costs so up to 5%), or for conventional loans where you don't have to pay for PMI (private mortgage insurance) it is usally 20% but can be 25% is you live in an area that is considered trending down.

As you can see, from the few questions I answered, you have a lot of options. Read some more and make your plan.

Good luck!

How do I deduct my hand tools for my real estate practice and client party?
Q. Two in one question. I am a real estate broker and I manage properties. In the process I have to do repairs on certain properties and have purchased hand tools for this purchase. I don't want to have to capitalize and all that for a 3.99 screwdriver so how do I deduct these purchases.

Part two. If I throw a client party at my house, can I write off the entire amount or is it subject to the 50% entertainment stuff.

Thanks in advance for your answer.
I have several hand tools so the screwdriver is an example. I can't imagine I have to fill out a sect 179 deduction for each one

A. For these kinds of questions it is best to call: 1-800-829-1040 or do a search on the following website: www.irs.gov

How do real estate agents get leads?
Q. I am looking into getting my real estate license in CA. I had so many questions, but thanks to yahoo answers, i was able to find most of them here. But i still have one question that i cant find the answer to... How does the agent find houses to sell? Do they get the leads from the company they work for? Do they post in the paper that they are an agent and looking to sell someones home? How does that whole situation go down? Thanks

A. Most of us will start as a buyers agent, your first year you will represent many buyers. When your name gets out, assuming that you are good at your job, those buyers will have friends that may be looking to sell. Occasionally, you may get a duty call (where you basically at as a secretary for a few hours) from someone wanting to sell. Also, you have a sphere of influence, people you already know, people that they know, folks you run into while doing things that you do on a regular basis. Don't be afraid to talk to them and let them know you are an agent and are always looking for someone who may be in need of your services. When you get your cards, drop them everywhere...you never know who may call you. Once you get your license part of your process will be you need to find an agency, talk to the broker and see what kind of advertisement the firm does. Some do more than others. I would be happy to talk to you off line about my agency and why I think it's the best.

Can real estate agents in California enter a home when you are not home while the tenant is still paying rent?
Q. We rent a house in LA. Our landlord has given us 60 days to vacate (completely fair). However, in those 60 days he plans on having real estate agents and prospective buyers tromping through the house regularly (often while we are not there). Is this legal? I don't want strangers in my house when I am not there. Can someone refer me to a legal statute that would help answer my question definitively (the lease has no relevant clause).

A. It's not your house.

The landlord usually has the right to reasonable visits for potential purchasers or renters. They may be required to give 24 hours notice and I think it's murky whether he can give standing notice for the entire 60 day period.

His right to show the house is independent of you being there. In other words, he can show it when you're home or not and you don't have any say in the matter assuming he's satisfied the other requirements.

A. This can't be answered with a few words.
A nuclear power plant uses fission to get energy. Fission means, splitting. The sun uses fusion, which means sticking.
In a fission reactor the fuel is enriched uranium. The atoms have a large surplus of neutrons which makes it radioactive, neutrons are ejected from the atoms. The rector stimulates this emission under controlled conditions, a lot of heat is generated in the process, the heat is used to boil water and the steam drives electrical generators.
Our sun is a fusion furnace, hydrogen under great pressure and heat is fused into helium, in the process part of the hydrogen atoms that are fused are converted into energy in the form of radiation. E=MC2. There are no similarities in the two methods of production.
dangerous hazards to health are present in each case.

Do your health benefits stay the same if you transfer within the company?
Q. I am moving from Miami to Las Vegas (hopefullly!) and just found that one of the companies that the global company I work for now is in LV and has an opening I would be great for.

As I am desperately not trying to alarm the HR person at my job OR my boss and just need to get very one important questioned answered, does anyone who works in HR know if my health benefits will stay the same if this is technically just a transfer?

IS this a transfer? The company I work for recently acquired this company and a couple of other ones, as well.

A. It would really depend on the company.
I work for a retail vhain of stores and you can transfrer and keep benefits .
however some companies trat different divisions of the compan differently.
In general I would say that if the place you are transfering to is called the same thing you are probably OK however if it's owned by the same people and called something different you are probably starting over weit benefits

Questions on the book Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Enhenreich?
Q. I have to write a paper,
and I need the following questions answered, and some examples!
I have the concept, but I didn't exactly read the book...

Does minimum way provide a liviable wage to Americans in the working class?
How did education, housing, health care, and gender play a role in the opportunities Barbara faced?
What might you do to rectify the situation of a living wage?
What did you learn from this book?

THANK YOU!

A. Got an afternoon or evening?

I read it on a recent car trip in under four hours. I'm not an amazingly fast reader. You can start at any single chapter or section and read just the one, since you know the basic concept, or skip around and get the feel for the different jobs she did.

Skim it at least. All your questions can be easily answered without in-depth reading.

Your teacher is hoping the students will learn the value of education by assigning reading showing the working lives of the uneducated. I really hope you'll take the message even if you can't make time to read it. Living as the working poor sucks.

Can an insurance company dictate how many hours you work a week?

Q. My insurance company states that if I drop the insurance, I can work no more than 25 hours a week, can they do this?

A. I think what is happening is this:

The Insurance Company has participation requirements. Your employer may need to have 75% of all eligible employees enrolled in their insurance plan. Waivers for those with coverage through their spouse do not count against them. So, let's say that there are 50 eligible employees and if you were to waive coverage because it is too expensive, you don't feel you need it, or any reason other than you have coverage through your spouse, it puts the group below the 75% requirement. Your election puts the whole group's coverage in jeopardy. The easiest fix is to make you ineligible - cut your hours to below the threshold of a full-time employee.

Bottom line, your employer is trying to protect the integrity of the group health plan for the good of the company and its employees. They can cut your hours anytime they feel it is necessary for the fiscal well-being of the company. I think this qualifies.

How much might it cost an insurance company to investigate an insurance claim for lets say theft?
Q. How much might it cost an insurance company to investigate an insurance claim for lets say theft? I just need a rough figure, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

A. The insurance company MUST investigate ALL claims. Be it, auto accidents, homeowner claims, they must determine if there is coverage, then determine if owed (liability to 3rd party) or if in theft, they take more steps, since the person claiming, must provide proof of the theft or to verify if not fraud.

They will usually take longer to conclude and will be asked more questions or proof. If fraud, then they will deny and pay nothing.

good luck

How can a life insurance company know if you smoke cigarettes if you quit one week prior to the exam?
Q. Can i quit smoking one week before my insurance company medical exam and my test results be negative?

If so, what happens if I die from lung cancer 20 years later? Will the insurance company protest or pay up?

A. Moral aspects of lying on the application are one part of the issue.

1. The technicalities though are such that the medical test will not show anything after 3 days of not smoking - I have read an article on that.

2. Contestability period is limited to 2 years in California and many other states (insurance is regulated at the state, not federal level). For insurance company to contest the policy the person should die from smoking, not from another cause.

3. Since insurance fraud happens allot it is being calculated into the premium - we all are paying for that insuring cars, homes, autos and lives.

Is it legal for an insurance company in Kentucky to cancel a policy with the 5 day written notice?
Q. Is it legal for an insurance company in Kentucky to cancel a policy with the 5 day written notice?

Under the common provisions 'cancelable'
I live in Kentucky and I am about to take my insurance exam and I am reading up the info in the book. It said "not legal in many states" I just wondered if Kentucky was one or not. Its for Health Insurance.

A. More facts please. What type of insurance. Were there any claims. Does the existing policy address cancellations notice, and what does it state. Are your payments current. Has there been any negative exchanges between you and the insurance company. What reasons were given.

What factors influence cost of vehicle insurance?
Q. Is vehicle insurance for a used car more expensive than a new car, or less expensive?

A. age of driver (younger costs more)

driving record (DUI costs a lot)

area (N Jersey costs twice as much as Iowa)

type of vehicle (sports cars cost more)

costs more if you have never had insurance before

Don't know about used versus new

If you have several cars, it costs less

Have it on your parents policy, costs less

Why I need a vehicle insurance when police check for vehicle documents ?
Q. Why I need a vehicle insurance when police check for vehicle documents, I know that Insured is to claim ur money in case of any damage to ur vehicle but, I think its my whish that whether I want to get my vehicle insurance claim or not, than why Indian police claim fine if I dont have Insurance paper after all its my whish whether I want or dont want my vehicle to be insured.

Or, is it a document needed for police verification if yes than why?

A. If you own you vehicle free and clear of the bank..you have to have liability insurance to cover damage you might do to someone else.
It is generally cheap.

If you owe money to the bank for your car and the bank has your title, then the bank will require full insurance to protect their collateral ..your car.

The reason why is simple..before those laws were in effect, folks without insurance would ram someones car..hurting the driver and destroying their transportation then show up in court saying.
I am broke so too bad about your medical bills and your car...sue me all you want, I have not money to collect.

That is why most states (if not all) require at least liability insurance...to protect the other drivers from irresponsible drivers.

Will my health insurance be valid in foreign countries?

Q. I am already under my father's health insurance plan. I plan on going to Japan for a few years. My question is will his health insurance cover any medical expenses I may have while I am there? Or will I have to get a separate insurance plan?

A. You ask that, like you think every health insurance is IDENTICAL in coverage.

It's not.

Odds are, you won't be covered, but you don't know for sure, until you call them. If you DO call them, make sure you find out EXACTLY what is covered, how much, and under what circumstances.

Are there private health insurance companies in Sweden?
Q. Simple question, do they have private health insurance companies in Sweden or is it all government run and sponsored? Is there a private option or not?
I just need a factual answer, yes or no. Opinions and sales pitches aren't necessary.

A. Private health insurance is available and increasingly popular in Sweden. Most who have it get it as a benefit from their employers.

How much does it cost for an American to give birth in Australia?
Q. My husband MAY have options for a basketball contract in Australia and I have questions regarding health insurance for our family. We currently have a 2 year old and would like to extend even further some time in the future. I believe my husband would be on a working visa since that is what we've done in Europe in the past, but what does that mean for my daughter and I? If we want to get pregnant during our stay, would we be able to get coverage? Any answers would be great.

A. You won't be eligible for Medicare if the family isn't here on a permanent visa, but you will be able to take out private health insurance that will cover pregnancy and obstetric expenses. You will have to take it out well before you get pregnant because there will invariably be a 12 month waiting period for pregnancy related benefits but you won't have any trouble getting cover if you get it early enough.

Some private insurance for temporary residents will provide even better benefits than Medicare with private insurance would return for a permanent resident or citizen i.e. GP, specialist, pathology and diagnostic services with no co-payments, free private hospital care and all prescribed pharmaceuticals. The cheapest cover for overseas residents will only cover public hospital obstetric expenses and may not cover any out of hospital services. While there will be a 2 month waiting period before any benefits can be claimed and the 12 month waiting period for pregnancy and obstetrics, pre-existing ailments and your medical history will not be considered. Family premiums range between $170 and $500 per month depending on the level of cover. There are a number of insurers providing insurance for temporary residents including:

I want to spend a year traveling and have questions about health insurance?
Q. I currently have health insurance with my employer but I am considering taking a year off to travel around the world a bit. If I get my own health insurance coverage, and I don't allow it to lapse before I get it, will I have trouble getting pre-existing conditions treated in the future when I rejoin an employer?

I don't have any major health issues -- mostly some tendonitis that has required repeat physical therapy -- not even sure if this would count as a pre-existing condition.

A. No, you shouldn't have any trouble, as long as it's with a group policy, and you don't let your current policy lapse.

Check with your current policy, though, because likely you're NOT going to have "worldwide" coverage.

If I buy a residential lot, do I have to pay insurance?

Q. My wife and I are about to buy a residential lot for our future home. We are putting 10 percent down and we don't plan on building for about three to four years. Are we required to pay insurance for the lot? Or what other fees might there be?? We live in South Carolina. Thanks.

A. No.

You might have to pay insurance for the mortgage, but you NEVER pay insurance on the lot for land only.

The reason is, land is permanent, and cannot be destroyed from normal things like a fire.

Why should people who dont pay insurance get a free house?
Q. Example:

Two different families own a house each, earn around the same income. One family goes without to pay house insurance, the other doesn't care.

The person who doesn't pay insurance has their house burn down - the community donate them a free house.

WHY?

What is the point of sacrifice if those who don't invest in their future get more?
I AM ANGRY

Because for years i have been without, our whole family has, while those around us have skipped insurance and had extra.

A fire happened and the neighbours will be better off than before the fire, it makes me wonder why i sacrifice when these people get what ever they need ?

A. It doesn't seem fair, but that attitude of allowing others to provide for you when you have done nothing to earn it will come around to haunt you.

As is, the community felt a common human emotion: sympathy. They just wanted to help. In the future, should something else happen to the family as a result of their irresponsible behavior, the community will probably be less willing to help.

is it normal for a teen to pay insurance before owning a car?
Q. My boyfriend (since he got his license at 16 before he had his own car) has been paying $200 a month on insurance because his parents said he had to.
My question is, did he have to pay insurance even when he didnt own a car?

A. Legally? Yes, the parents had to add him to the insurance's list of drivers, that costs money.

Should he be paying it himself? Yeah, to teach him responsibility and for kind of toll for using their car/a car they bought for him.

Do I have to start paying insurance once I get my license?
Q. I am 16, passed my license exam, and live in Florida. My mom won't let me get the license because she insists that she'd have to start paying insurance right away. After talking to driving friends, I've concluded that this isn't true, but I'd just like to ask strangers haha.

A. If you will be driving the family car regularly (and I'm sure you will...) then yes, you need to be added to the insurance. Teen insurance rates can be pretty expensive.

Why does it switch from open questions to recommended questions when I want to answer questions?

Q. When I view questions in Browse Categories it goes to recommeded questions. Why?

A. It's a new feature that Yahoo Answers is testing. Not everyone has it right now, but most of the people who do see it don't like it - myself included. Basically, it's a feature that lists questions that Yahoo Answers has determined that you'd be good at answering. However, not every category has these recommended questions; they're based on questions you've answered in the past. So I don't have any recommended questions in the mathematics category, for example. (Thank goodness; I'd just confuse people.)

You can read the blog post about it and make comments about it here: http://yanswersblog.com/index.php/archives/2012/06/25/new-feature-to-recommend/ -- if enough people comment about wanting it to change, we might see those changes. Most people just don't want it to be the default tab.

Why is the ending of the opening scene creating suspensethe act 1 scene 1 of Diary of Anne Frank novel?
Q. I think the ending of the opening scene creates suspense because Anne Franks family left secretly with another family (the Daans family) to hideout. It seems as though they are trying to run away from their issues.

Anyone help! Do I have the right answer?

A. Go and ask them in that Maths School you keep telling everybody to go to when they ask a question involving mathematics
and no, you do NOT have the right answer

How can education open you life up for more job choices?
Q. I may have rephrased the question kind of hard to understand. I need 3 reasons on why education can help you with you career choices!

A. 1) Some employers only consider people who have completed a high school diploma, a bachelor degree, a master degree or a doctoral degree (given the position).
2) One example: My father was only able to get a grade 3 position in the federal government (at age 39) as he dropped out of school after sixth grade. I began in a grade 9 position in the federal government (at age 23) as I completed a master degree (applied mathematics).
3) Sounds like you do not want to continue in education. (A reason for this?) If this is true, then do not expect a good chance of finding a good career.

If you are under age 30, then I definitely encourage you to continue in education.

Why do people bother to answer paranormal questions when they don't believe in it?
Q. Honestly, haven't folks got better questions to answer or better things to do then jump in and insult people asking questions about paranormal phenomenon? If you don't believe in paranormal occurrences, then just MOVE ON! Stop trying to bogart easy points by stopping by a question and offering nothing- just keep going, no one will miss you.
Might taking Paranormal Phenom out of Science and Mathematics be a good idea?
I believe that Paranormal Phenomena should be moved out of Science and Mathematics but Parapsychology left in the Sci/Math category, although as one commenter remarked, the pseudo-skeptics or cynical types would probably seek out posts and continue their onslaught no matter where it is. I enjoy a healthy dose of skepticism and I consider myself more of a skeptic than a believer most of the time, but I find it sad that there are people out there 'stalking' this category to ridicule others and add nothing of benefit other than personal attacks, and it occurs rather frequently.

A. I think it would be great to move it away from science and mathematics. By doing such we may not get as many of the personal onslaughts that we open ourselves up to for admitting we believe in things which others find it so difficult to do.
I have no issue whatsoever in people having different opinions, nor do I have issues with those that do not believe, there are a number of things in this world that I don't believe. What I do have a problem with are those people that find it satisfying to openly ridicule and humiliate others just because of their belief. Perhaps with a few more open minds and an acceptance of others beliefs, we would all stand to learn something new. We should be looking at sharing knowledge and experience on all subject matters, not just dismissing things because they lack scientific proof.

I wish everyone a happy and peaceful future, filled with all the wonderful things that this universe has to offer. :-)

TX-How would I go about transferring a personal vehicle to my corporation, is this a smart move?

Q. I have a truck that is my personal vehicle. I am creating a sub Ch. S corporation & am considering transferring my vehicle to the corp. The vehicle would be used for bus. purposes. Also possibly blocking myselft from monetary liability & possibly as a write off/Insurance benefit. I am still making payments on the vehicle. Is this a worthwile move? Any tips to facilitate the transfer?

A. You can easily transfer the title by taking it to the motor vehicle department. Accounting for it you should debit (increase) the asset account "autos & trucks" and credit "shareholder equity" for the contributed asset.
The corporation can take depreciation expense. But beware, the insurance on a company owned vehicle is higher than a personally owned vehicle.

I saw a corsa car(rear damaged and written off).Boot lid and bumper needs replacement. How much would it cost?
Q. Replacements are available.I need to know how much would it cost to repair these(lid and bumper).Rest of the car in excellent condition.
Also what are the implications of buying such cars(accident involved and written off by insurance team)??

A. if you go on the cheap like ajunk yard you can get the parts for about $100 if you do the work yourself. that means replacing the broken stuff with junkyard stuff. lid $40, rear bumper $65, tail lights, gas tank about $60 if needed.
if you remove the broken stuff and find something else like rear end damage, crushed trunk, gas tank, etc you can get pricey quickly. if the damage seems minimal get a good look at the trunk space, and overall rear body metal. any folds in the metal need to be pulled more money. other than that make sure the car runs, can pass inspection with rear lights and stuff and fix it.

I'm work for a company and use my car, can I write off the insurance on my taxes?
Q. I know you can write off if you are self employed, but what if you work for a company and are required to use your own car and receive a mileage reimbursement?
Wow! Thanks Agha, you have just been reported for spam! Sux to be you!
You too King spammer

A. You cannot take a dollar for dollar deduction for your insurance.

You can deduct the business use of your vehicle by either using a flat mileage deduction of 55 cents per business mile, or by figuring the actual expenses of the business use. The actual expenses will include a fraction of your insurance depending on the percentage of business use for your vehicle.

Actual expenses also include fuel, parking, tolls, repairs, and depreciation. You must keep detailed records. In practice it is not often that actual expenses are better for the taxpayer than a flat mileage rate. However, if your car is new and your insurance premium is high, it may be better to take actual expenses.

In either case, mileage or actual expenses, you must reduce your deduction by any amount you have received as tax-free reimbursement from your employer.

All this is figured on Form 2106. See also IRS Pub 463 for detailed examples.

If my employer doesn't offer a health plan, can I write off premiums for my independent health insurance?
Q. I've read that I can only write off those that are in excess of 7.5% of my income. The reason I question this is because my previous job offered health insurance which I contributed to and those payments were always made on a pre-tax basis.

So why would it be tax free if I go through an employer, but not if I buy my own plan?

A. That's the way IRS regulations are. You can write off the premiums on a group policy or if you are self employeed. Otherwise, you are subject to the 7.5% rule.

What Do Phone Insurance Companies Check?

Q. I recently cracked the screen on my phone. I was wondering what the phone companies check if you send it in to be replaced and it is covered by insurance. Do they check text messages, call records, and other personal things?

A. No, they don't.

You send the phone in, though, and they send you a refurb. You don't get the same one back.

What Is A Deductible On a Cell Phone Bill?
Q. I recently called my cell phone insurance company and they're sending me a replacement cell phone but they're putting a $50 deductible and I want to know what it is?

A. The deductible is the portion of any claim that is not covered by the insurance provider. It is the amount of expenses that must be paid out of pocket before an insurer will cover any expenses. It is normally quoted as a fixed quantity and is a part of most policies covering losses to the policy holder. The deductible must be paid by the insured, before the benefits of the policy can apply. Typically, a general rule is: the higher the deductible, the lower the premium, and vice versa.

What is the warranty on an AT&T phone and where can I buy insurance?
Q. What does insurance cover? If I wash my phone is it covered? Where do I get insurance?

A. For ATT insurance does cover a liquid damaged phone. Unfortunately you can only purchase insurance for your device in the first 30 days of purchase (and you would buy that from ATT $4.99 monthly recurring charge). Warranty WILL NOT take a liquid damaged phone. And if this is an iPhone warranty wont take it period and you cant buy insurance through ATT period. Best advice if you are past 30 days see if you can get insurance through an actual insurance company. Otherwise find an old phone or have fun shopping at no commitment price.

Can I pretend to loose my phone with insurance, sell it and get another one back?
Q. My phone insurance covers theft, so can i fake it getting stolen and sell it. say it got lost, and get another refurbished one?
for t mobile

A. Of course you can! You can buy a car, drive it into a dumpster and report it stolen and then make a claim. You can also buy life insurance and fake your own death and get the beneficiary to give you the money too. That is if you like getting CHARGED WITH FRAUD AND GOING TO JAIL!

Not a smart move if you do bud.

How to make phone calls from cell phone through computer?

Q. I would like to connect my cell phone to my computer and make/receive phone calls through my computer, using the computers mic and speakers for the phone call. I do not want to use VOIP, Google Voice, or any other similar program.

I simply want to connect my phone to my computer and make phone calls using the actual phone.

A. what you require is to talk using the mic and hear using external speaker. Its very simple, just coonect your phone to external speaker (with 3 mm jack). Use normal mic of your phone.
So no need to connect computer, however it will do the same task.
I would still say to consider using voip apps like viber on your android mobile.

How Can i keep my car, without paying insurance?

Q. I have a car that i DONT want to sell, but i will not be using very often, can i keep it WITHOUT paying insurance, because obviously it would be a waste of money to be paying insurance on a car that i do not drive.

A. You can keep a car without insurance but you must have insurance to drive it. Also if the car is financed your lender will probably require insurance until paid off.

I am paying insurance for the car I am not driving?
Q. I only drive it like once a week.Is there a way of paying insurance by day or usage?

A. lots of people pay taxes for houses they don't live in, I even have batteries that go dead while not using them, it's life.
Sure you can complain but If you want a solution, then sell the car and use the bus.

If you get a drivers licsense, do you automatically have to pay insurance even without having a car?
Q. If you get a drivers licsense, do you automatically have to pay insurance even if you dont have a car??

A. No. The insurance is for the car, not for your license.

Is it true about how you can avoid paying car insurance?
Q. I was once told by one of my professors that the law allows you to not pay car insurance as long as you have a certain amount of money on reserve for paying the cost of the accident (if the judge found you to be the cause.) Is this true or the law have changed?

If it's true, it would sound logical to test the stats to see the probability of you getting into an accident and the time you can avoid paying insurance.

Any thoughts?

A. The easiest way to get rid of paying car insurance is to sell your car and purchase a bus pass for your city. You'll save on gas, car maintanance, and insurance. If your professor told you what you claim he said, ask him for the details.

How do you pull out a bad tooth at home?

Q. My boyfriend has very bad teeth in the front and they are hurting him very badly. He wants to pull them out at home (no insurance) and can't figure out how. The thing is the gums are good and the tooth is firmly in place and the tooth is not loose. HELP!!!!!!

A. the thing about pulling teeth at home is that dentists use a specialized set of tools to break the ligaments around the tooth, connecting it to the gum, also they have special forceps that forcefully rock the tooth back and forth until it comes out of place. the root of the tooth is quite long and i would not recommend taking it out at home... i doubt that you even could. many female dentists have a very hard time pulling teeth because it takes a great deal of strength.

i think you should wait until tomorrow and search very hard for a charity dentist. tell them that you're homeless and unemployed, whatever it takes. they will pull the tooth. and be sure u tell them its an emergency

he also needs anesthetic. if he thinks hes in pain now, wait till you start yankin it around in there hard enough to break the ligaments.

What is the most affordable small home or cottage insurance company?
Q. I own a home that is 300 sq feet. It's basically a little cottage/studio house. I am looking for a company that will 1) insure a home that small and 2) is affordable. Does anyone have experience with a company they would like to recommend?

A. The secret to finding cheap home insurance is to do your research and obtain as many quotes as possible. You should start by comparing anywhere from three to five quotes. But if you can find 10 or more companies that offer home insurance coverage, you are really going to be in a good position. The bottom line is simple: the more home insurance companies that are vying for your business the better chance you have of getting the best price.

Moving on, you need to be fully aware of the power of the internet. What does this mean? Simply put, if you want to learn a lot about home insurance and have the chance to obtain plenty of quotes, the internet is where you need to start your search. In jacksonville florida, I was considering to buy a wolf hybrid, but do they bring up the home insurance price
Q. I am aware that if they are over 75% they are illegal here in Florida, and I've asked and searched the internet many times on insurance, and I still haven't found any answers. So I'd like to have an idea or at least know if they have any effect on home isurance before I purchase it.

A. First of all, why would you purchase a wolf dog? What are your reasons? I know you may get on the defence here and not wan tot disclose that info, but ask YOURSELF this very question. If you don't know what to ask yourself, have a read: http://www.wolfhaven.org/think_again.php

Wolf dogs are not illegal in Florida, no matter what the content. You require a Class II Wildlife Permit to harbour any wolf dog that is over 75% (see below). [This law should be revised, as percentages are completely inaccurate to determine content of wolf].

State Regulations for Florida for wolf dogs are as follows:
"Pure wolves and hybrids which are 25% or less domestic dog require a $100 permit per year unless exempted as a researcher." Provisions include owner "demonstrates no less than one year of substantial practical experience (to consist of no less than 100 hours) plus successfully complete a written examination on the care, feeding, handling and husbandry of the species for which the permit is sought, or other species, within the same biological family ... which are substantially similar in size, characteristics, care and nutritional requirements to the species for which the permit is sought," is able to provide a proper diet, health care and exercise, caging meets minimum specifications and that the neighborhood setting is appropriate." There are yard, containment, housing and care requirements. Those animals that are 75% or more wolf must be permitted as Class II wildlife."

As far as home insurance is concerned, your best bet is to call around. All insurance companies are different.

You should also contact your local ASPCA or Animal Control to ask about liability insurance if you plan on keeping a wolf dog. There are some states that require million dollar liability insurance (completely separate from home insurance) and $500 licensing fee p/yr (separate from a permit) if you have a dog that has any (known) wolf content in it.

My wedding rings disappeard out of my home 10 yrs. ago has it been too long to claim them on my insurance?
Q. My wedding rings disappeared out of my home 10 yrs ago. Every time we have done a home project or replaced carpeting we have been careful to search for them. Do you think it has been too long to claim them on my home owners insurance? I would really love to get them replaced.

A. Yep, too long.

Not only that, but "oops I lost them" isn't covered under the standard homeowners policy.

Is it OK to ask if a new job offer will provide meical insurance earlier than the stated 3 months?

Q. I was offered a job but they will provide me with health insurance after 3 months they said. Health insurance is very important to me and I need it ASAP. Can I ask them if they are willing to offer it to me a little sooner,.. say after 1 or 2 months?
What are the chances that they will agree to that? Can they?

A. You can ask for anything you want. However, I can't imagine they'll give it to you. If they do, and other people find out, they'll have to make exceptions for everyone. The only time I've ever seen an employer give insurance sooner than the standard wait time is when one of our new employees had a heart attack at work. The CFO was immediately on the phone with the insurance company turning the employee's benefits on.

In a general journal, where would a paid insurance policy go?
Q. I have an assignment in Accounting and we're learning how to do General Journal entries.

The one I'm stuck on says "Paid 2,100 cash for an insurance policy covering the next 24 months."

Since you're paying cash for it, would that mean the amount of money would go into the credit side since it's a decrease in cash? What type of account would a paid insurance policy go under anyway?

A. You should
Dr Prepaid insurance $2,100
Cr Cash $2,100

Since the policy is for 2 yrs, you would reverse $1,050 to income statement at the end of the 1st and 2nd yrs.
Dr Insurance expense $1,050
Cr Prepaid insurance $1,050

At the end of the 2nd yr, your prepaid insurance would have a 0 balance.

Do you have to pay insurance once you get your driver's license?
Q. Someone told me that once you get your driver's license (whether you have a car or not) you have to begin paying insurance. Is this true? I live in Nevada, by the way.

A. Someone told you wrong. We don't insure people with drivers licenses. We insure vehicles. if you have no vehicle, you have nothing to insure.
